By the time we made it back to Brooklyn, we were beyond exhausted. Disposing of bodies was hard work. When we returned to my parentsâ house, we had to compel them to forget what they saw since we were covered in blood and dirt. I hated doing that to them, but it was a necessary evil.
âSo let me get this straight,â Bash started. âYou buried their bodies in the woods, where their bodies can be unearthed by animals and found by humans?â
My brows furrowed. âWell, I didnât think about it like that. But now that you mention it, maybe we should contact the SIU â¦â
âYou think?â Bash deadpanned.
âListen, we were under duress. Did you not hear the part where a human put a bounty out on my head? A human!â
Bash laid on our bed and crossed his ankles, resting his hands on his stomach. âYes, I heard you, Mackenzie.â
âDoesnât that concern you? It concerns me. I donât mind having supernatural enemies, but a human? What the hell did I do to them?â
âHumans donât scare me. Iâm almost positive the ones behind this are the vampires,â Bash said almost certainly.
âI donât know, Bash â¦â
He shrugged. âDonât be so quick to believe this man. He was on deathâs door. He was probably spouting nonsense to save his own ass.â
I grinned. âI love it when you curse.â
âMackenzie, stay on track.â
âSorry,â I winced. âAnyway, tomorrow Iâll give the phone to Finn to trace when I go to work. Letâs see what we can get out of it.â
I finished drying my hair with a towel and threw on a t-shirt and some underwear and climbed into bed. I was completely drained after the day I had.
Bash turned on his side to face me. âDonât think Iâm not worried, Mackenzie, because I am. I worry about you every day.â He brushed a damp strand of hair away from my face.
âYou know I worry about you too,â I murmured.
He quirked a brow. âReally? And why is that?â
âI have so many enemies. Youâre an easy target.â
He grinned. âI canât be captured that easily.â
I gave him a sly smile before I pounced, pushing him on his back and straddling him. I took his wrists and held them above his head. âI find it pretty easy,â I whispered.
He growled playfully before grabbing me around the waist and flipping me on my back as if I hadnât just been pinning him down. âOnly because I let you,â he taunted. I couldnât help but laugh.
Bash brushed his finger over my lips. âQuiet, Mackenzie. Your father is just down the hall.â
I sighed. I forgot about Alexander. We didnât want to get caughtâagain. And with wolvesâ sensitive hearing, it would be way too apparent what we were up to. Damn wolf hearing.
I frowned playfully. âFine, no play time. Just one little kiss.â
